The winter had passed and life was seeping back into everything and everyone. Veridia itself was pulsating. And what place to better take place in all this if not the woods? Thick branches made patterns all around and everything was covered in a see of green. The light that did pass through the leaves was filtered and only a small amount actually hit the ground.
A young woman made her way through the natural labyrinth, her hazel eyes flowing over everything as she passed silently. Her dress, emerald and brown braided together, somehow managed to not get caught up in the twigs. She looked up when a bird started singing and a smile played on her lips.
Miranda stopped in the middle of a clearing and turned in a circle, her left brow raised slightly. Everything was peaceful enough, but she could almost feel someone else... Not too far, but not close enough for her senses to detect his or her nature. She decided to let the other take the first step. Miranda ignored the other and sat down on the grass, taking a violin out of a bag that hanged over her shoulder. With slow movements, she started a soft song, waiting.

The forest was calm, and completely at peace. The trickling of the stream below could be heard, and it rang through the young man’s ears. The twittering songs of birds soared into the air, flowing through the branches of the trees, making a lovely echo. The young man in all black rolled onto his back, and sighed. He heard the soft breathing of his pet, Kenai, who just so happened to be a great big panther. The man smiled softly, and closed his eyes. The bed he was laying in was made by himself, as well as the entire village-like home in the trees that resided around him. The boy, Kain, had ran away from home years before, and developed this home in the perfect location. It was a 3-part house, built in majestic oak trees, which held as supports for his small mansion in the sky. A couple of trees held up Kain’s kitchen. (Well…more like the table and eating area. He didn’t cook in his room, out of fear that he might light the entire forest on fire.) The next group of trees housed Kain’s living area, and the last group held his bedroom, which he resided in at the present time. He had a ramp, in order to get down, which twisted down the “kitchen tree”. This way, both Kain and Kenai could get up and down easily. Usually Kain slept like a rock, not waking up until around noon, yet this night, had not been so progressive. The day earlier, Kain was walking in the woods alone, and was unexpectedly attacked by a big, brown bear. In his defense, Kain was busy singing, and fishing at the time, so he wasn’t paying much attention. But, alas, that stupid bear attacked him, making off with his whole right sleeve, and a good bit of his arm. And, now he was paying for it. Kain sat up and wobbled sleepily towards the bridge that connected his bedroom to the kitchen, so he could get down the ramp. He heard rustling behind him, and he peered back to see Kenai, yawning, glancing at Kain in surprise. Probably because Kain was up so early. “Stay boy. I’m just going to go put some water on my arm, and see if there are any healing herbs around or something. Go back to sleep.” The panther kind of rolled his eyes, mildly concerned about his friend’s foolishness, and went back into a light slumber. Kain grinned at the beast, and walked across the bridge, into his kitchen, then down the ramp. While in the kitchen, Kain had grabbed a cup, so he could get a drink, and put it on his arm by lightly pouring, not dipping his arm into the small, gushing waterfall. (that would hurt…XD) He slowly took the cup, and dipped it into the spring, drawing out the clear, pure water. He took a small sip, and set the cup down on a rock. Sitting next to it, Kain began to remove his bandaging, and grumbled at the sight of his injury. It had gotten worse since yesterday, at least, the pain had. The bleeding had finally stopped though, which gave Kain slight hope. He held the cup of water to his arm, and let it run into his wound, and around it. He sucked in a quick breath, not expecting so much pain to come from such a small and light amount of water. He closed his eyes, and breathed slowly, waiting for the pain to subside. That was when he heard it. A soft humming of a violin seemed to float through his pointy ears, and he twitched slightly. Was this a dream? He hadn’t heard real music in years. Years that seemed like centuries. He listened for a short while, and once his pain had completely stopped, (at least for the moment,) He stood up, and began to head towards the enchanting melody. It was coming from close by, that much Kain could tell. Kenai must’ve heard the song as well, for he was walking down the ramp, creeping, with his ears bent down. He must be afraid, or something. “Shhh..” Kain said to his pet, and looked at him, with a calming look. Kenai’s ears seemed to relax, and Kain sighed. Poor thing. He had never heard music before. The two walked slowly towards the music, and soon the saw a young woman, sitting in a clearing, playing her violin. Odd. What was even more strange was that this young woman was dressed as a witch, in a brown and green robe. What did a witch have to gain by being in a forest? Kain began to debate whether or not he should go and ask her, but he decided against it. As soon as he turned to walk away, Kenai at his side, he heard a loud spine tingling ‘Crunch’. He quickly spun around to see that Kenai had stepped on a stick, and broke it into two pieces. Kenai looked up at Kain with wide eyes, and Kain glared at him. He looked up towards the woman, and froze. If she hadn’t seen either of them, she had certainly heard them. And, since she was actually in the woods, (and) if his educated guess proved to be correct, she would be looking around for him. He gave Kenai a look that said “Don’t-you-move-or-else,” And that’s how they stood, awaiting her approach.

The songs of man - mortal and immortal alike - would never rival the ones nature sang constantly, however if one were to combine the two, the result would always be beyond imagination. Or maybe it was just her opinion, Miranda never really cared and never really tried to find out. Why wonder what others thought if it didn't influence you in any way? Instead of thinking about the subject, she allowed her mind to drift ever so slightly, thinking about the person who first showed her how to play an instrument, back when she was a child even by a normal human's standards - what age was she? Six? Ten? Her mother had never been the warm kind, so it had been a maid who guided her first steps towards music, much to the High Priestess of the time's displeasure. Miranda might be called cold by some but she was nothing compared to Hellena Ward. She was as she was as a manifestation of indifference and nothing else.
A sound floated to her ears, one different than the ones you would normally expect to find in a forest if you are alone, one that got her full attention. Miranda's thoughts focused on the present in a heartbeat, but nothing in her appearance gave proof of this. Her eyes were closed, her arm moved to allow the music to keep flowing, her pose remained unmoved, but her senses expanded once again beyond her normal, relaxed state. After so many years of training she could easily do this, however hard it might prove to a novice. The memories of her childhood weren't what you might expect, even for a witch. The child Miranda had been just as stubborn and hungry for knowledge as the adult version.
An animal, too? she thought to herself with curiosity, hearing something extremely graceful, even for an elf, brush against the fallen leaves. She didn't fear what was coming in the least. As a witch, she was more than equipped to handle most of the wildlife inhabiting those woods. Then, when a twig snapped, the young woman almost chuckled. Instead, not wanting to make too much noise just yet, a smile played on her lips. "I hope my music didn't bother you too much" Miranda said and opened her cognac coloured eyes, a sign that she was indeed calm and even in a good mood. She couldn't see them perfectly but she had a slight guess they were in the direction she was looking. "It's so hard to find a good spot these days." Her voice remained soft, just loud enough to allow the others to hear her without much trouble, not wanting to startle those who were listening and, probably, looking.
She stopped playing after a few more notes, bringing the song to an end, and put her violin on her lap, listening to the birds continue their melody even after hers ended. "I can assure you, if I wanted to do any harm," Miranda moved her gaze away from where she thought they were and looked at some blue flowers not to far from where she was standing. "you would have known by now." A display of her powers would have been childish - not to mention useless -, so she ignored that choice completely. Miranda acted like this was the safest and most normal situation possible, wanting to see what the others would do next. Not long after, she decided to speak again. "If knowing my name would make you feel any better," she started, "I'm Miranda." The witch kept her last name to herself like always when she wasn't on official business, not very eager to let others know who they were talking to. Of course, maybe her interlocutor didn't know who she was, which didn't bother her in the least. She found that people responded better to her that way, making it easier to get to know them.
While talking and listening, she made time to admire the nature around her. She wasn't an elf or a healer or anything else that would mean her destiny was interwind with nature, however knowing your surroundings was useful no matter your species. She brushed some dirt of the folds of her dress casually, allowing whoever hid behind the trees time to decide their next move. Miranda didn't feel like doing anything rash today. She hadn't expected company but didn't mind it either, much to her own surprise.

Kain relaxed, hearing the woman's calm voice assure him that she wasn't going to attack him. Not like he really believed she would, but, you can never be to sure with a witch around. If she was a witch...Kain stood up, escaping from the semi-croutching position he had been in for the last minute or so. "No, your music didn't bother me." He said, as he gracefully jumped over the underbrush that he had previously hid behind. Kenai followed after, doing a similar jump, yet, his was naturally, more impressive. -.- stupid cat. Kain looked at her, and watched her brush dirt off of her dress. Hm...He couldn't quite place it, but there was something about her that was familiar. Maybe Kain had heard of her when he lived in Nudin Village. "Kain Winters," He replied, and looked towards his great panther. "And this is Kenai." Kenai growled slightly at Kain, because he always wanted to be introduced first. And, Kain would introduce him first, someday. It didn't really matter, did it? He looked around the clearing, and sighed. He had often came here in times that he was upset, or torn inside. He remembered when he was younger, little Kain ran through these woods, looking frightened, trying to hide from...everything. And this clearing was where he finally collapsed. He stopped and broke down in almost the exact place this 'Miranda' was sitting in now. He remembered, the birds sang, even on that day. It seems as though, nature will always go on, no matter what humans are going through. If the entire race of Elves and Humans suddenly attacked each other, nature would continue to thrive. Even when death seems so apparent, for example, if this forest was flooded with corpses, birds would continue to sing. Yet, Something about their song was different today. The presence of this girl was obviously effecting them.
Kain approached her, ever so slowly, and Kenai followed behind. "What are you doing in this forest anyway?" He asked, not rude, because it wasn't like he didn't want her here, God forbid he come in contact with another person. In fact, he asked it just out of curiousity. He didn't want her to get upset at him and leave, because there would've gone his first chance to talk with someone in years. He decided whether or not he should keep standing, because he knew that it was uncomfortable, especially in this sort of situation. It looked awkward, as well. Kain sat down, not directly beside her, and not to far away, but close enough to show her that he himself, meant no harm as well. Kenai, obviously liking her, sat directly next to Miranda, waiting for her to pet him, by the looks of it. Kain rolled his eyes at the panther, who gleamed, out of pure happiness. Kain listened, and noticed he had a leaf stuck to the bottom of his shoe. Oh, that's nice. He peeled the leaf off his black boot, and threw it towards Kenai, who looked at it, confused. Kain was still interested in whether or not Miranda was a witch, but he decided he would put that off until later, unless it came up.

The witch kept her gaze away from her company, trying to identify the flowers she was looking at. Blue iris, she thought to herself. Lovely. When she looked at the two she had time to admire the feline's movements, the natural grace that accompanied each and every one of its steps. Hmmm...Haven't seen a panther around here in a long time. Miranda had explored this forest from a young age, even by human standards, and had seen some other parts of Veridia, too.
Her eyes moved to the elf and she smiled. She had a cat at home and knew their tempers all too well, large or small. Felines had a certain something about them, something that made everyone and everything around respect them. "It's nice to meet you both," Miranda answered and nodded a 'hello' to each of them. She wondered if she had ever seen them around before... remembering faces had never been her strongest quality. Doubting it anyway, Miranda watched him, wondering what was going through his mind. Now she was sure it was the first time they met and waited for him to return to the present, not wanting to intrude on his memories.
"Relaxing, mostly," she answered, not at all bothered by his question. "I wanted some time away from everything. No matter how much you enjoy your profession, some time away is always welcome." Miranda smiled to herself. There wasn't any real way to escape your 'job' when you were a witch. Magic wasn't something you learned in time, it was something you were born with, something that flowed through you along with your blood, with everything you are. You couldn't escape being a witch or wizard more than you could escape being a human or an elf. However she had to admit, a break from the diplomatic duties was a fantastic change.
She watched him sit and smiled; Miranda was going to ask him to do just that. There was no reason for him not being comfortable while they talked. She wasn't the Head Witch now, she was just Miranda Ward, a witch. When the panther sat next to her, she laughed, delighted, and gently scrathed behind Kenai's left ear. She couldn't resist and, witch a fluent motion of her right hand, made a small steak appear in front of the feline. "Sorry, dear, only thing I could think of. I hope you like beef." Making something out of thin air was an impossible feat, even for the greatest of wizards, but it just so happened that Miranda knew where the meat was cooked in the castle. The cook would have been very surprised to discover its absence if this wasn't almost normal. Why, Miranda could remember the first time she did this. The old lady yelled at the child for hours. Years from then, she felt like laughing when she recallled that memory.
"Do you live around here?" Miranda asked, turning her attention back towards Kain, still petting the feline while talking. "It's a beautiful place so I figured it's either that or you were taking this splendid cat out for a walk." She moved a little so she was facing him now, glad he decided to stay for a while longer. The last elf she talked to had been Eleanor, the elven Lady, and that was during negotiations that took two whole days. It made her tired just to think about it.

[ooc-Oh, no worries! busy weeks always happen! :] ]
Kain watched in slight amazement as Miranda summoned a peice of beef, out of thin air.
Yeah. She's a witch.
Kain shook himself from his small, food filled reverie, and looked at Miranda. He was hungry, and now that he was thinking about himself, his wound began to ache again. He closed his eyes, trying to take his mind off the injury. He couldn't quite have empathy what she said about proffesions, for he had not had a job, a real job, in years. But, he recalled very well what it was like to have to work at being a ranger every single day. He changed the topic, "Yes, I live here. I have for years." Kain said softly, and looked over at Kenai, who was incredibly happy with his new found friend, and food. "Not far from here, actually. I heard you're music," He said, and looked gently at the violin, which was in her lap. "And followed it. It's not often that I hear such sounds.." He added, and smiled, lightly. He could tell she like Kenai alot, and it seemed like the great panther was rubbing it in Kain's face.
The nerve of that animal.
He stuck his tounge out at the cat, who looked at him with utter gleefulness. He looked back at Miranda, and replied about his cat. "Well, actually, he just woke up. He must've known you were going to have meat for him, since he's not this kind to people he just met." He laughed, and heard Kenai's deep purr. It was a calming noise, one that often put Kain to sleep, if he was really tired. "Otherwise," He started again, "He would still be passed out at the house." "So, Miranda," He said in a welcoming tone, "Where did you come from? Surely you didn't just end up in the forest, Unless....there is...some spell for that..." He rambled on, knowing that he sounded like an idiot, which didn't occur often. He was usually calm and collected, but that was with animals. He hadn't remembered how suave he was around people. He looked at Miranda grinning, at his comment. Kenai gave him the "wow-you-sound-like-a-moron look," and Kain glared at him. Hopefully, he wouldn't ramble anymore...

Miranda tried not to laugh at Kain's reaction. Her amusement wasn't directed at him, not exactly, but it was surprising how many didn't expect to meet a magic wielder face to face. She looked at him when he closed his eyes, noticing his discomfort. Then she saw his hand and wondered how it had escaped her earlier. Being a priestess, she could heal minor wounds, even if she had a greater inclination towards destroying things than putting them back together. Why, with the right herbs...
His voice brought her attention back to the present and she resumed petting the panther as it ate. Miranda tilted her head very slightly, as if trying to see things from another perspective. "That's nice but don't you ever get bored? I doubt you get many visits." She stopped and let him finish. Interrupting when others spoke had always been a nasty habit of hers. She kept herself busy with spoiling the feline who obviously felt her weakness for its kind. "Yes, well, I usually go for walks when I want to sing. I like to sing for the pleasure of singing, not to impress."
She chuckled at the two's wordless communication; it was something that required a great deal of bonding and by now Miranda was sure they were very close if they acted this way. Laughing with him, she looked at Kenai and watched the cat, noticing how relaxed he was. "I suppose you could say animals have a sixth sense about these things" she told him, still smiling brightly. An idea started to form in her mind but she kept it there. Miranda only made her thoughts public once they were complete, details and all. But she suspected this particular one was rather good.
"Oh, no, there's not. You'd need a special devise to teleport and it would be so complicated it's easier to take a horse or walk," Miranda told him calmly. "My horse got me to the closest village and I walked from there." She thought she might have referred to something else so, after a pause, she continued. "I came from the castle because, to be honest, it gets too crowded after a while." The young woman shrugged. And there goes my cover... she thought to herself, sighing inwardly. Miranda didn't mind him talking, she liked it when she didn't have to keep the entire conversation going all by herself. She followed his glare and, tutting softly at Kenai, said "Now, now, don't be rude." Miranda looked back at Kain and smiled. "It's quite alright, I understand curiosity perfectly. I don't see why this wonderful cat would think otherwise."

Kain smiled. Oh how he missed talking with people. "Oh, I'm bored almost all the time. But, to be honest, I don't know how I would handle going back to a village, or city. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy." He nodded, and looked towards his goofy pet panther. "Yes, I suppose that's true." He replied, and his gaze went back to Miranda. "He always knows when he's going to get food..I don't get it. I wish I had that sense," He added, and chuckled lightly. Imagine how useful that would be? Being able to know where food was at all times? Maybe that was why he kept Kenai around.
When she spoke again, Kain couldn't help but laugh. "So, there is some sort of way to teleport?" He asked, and got more comfortable. "Well, that's interesting, I'm sure you've tried it once or twice, yes?" He questioned, and tilted his head, letting his lion-mane hair flop to the side. Honestly, one of the reasons he stayed in this forest was because he always got strange looks from people, because of his image. And...now, with a panther on his side, the looks couldn't get much better. People think you are weird if you have an animal, the size of a bear, following you around.
Kain noticed Miranda's soft tutting towards Kenai, and smiled. Haha. Kain became more interested once she talked about the castle. He had always dreamed of going there, and she...was running from it. Well, temporarily. "The Castle?" He whispered, and sighed. One day he would go to the castle. That was his dream, or his..goal, actually. "What's it like there? is it beautiful?" He asked, completely astonished that he was sitting before someone important enough to be able to access the castle. Perhaps, she was a preistess, like his father was a preist? A witch, and a preistess?

She smiled back and shook her head as to say that he was not crazy. Sometimes she felt the same way, regardless of their reasons. Being in a crowd of people was nice until you needed time to yourself. That was when the problem began. In fact that was why she came to the forest in the first place. "I can't speak for your kind but mine are closer to humans. And we've lost so many instincts... This one is just one of them, I suppose," Miranda said and sighed softly, thinking about their words.
"Yes, there is, actually," she answered and laughed with him. "Only a couple of times. It's terribly uncomfortable, but some of my younger colleagues think there's nothing as fun." Miranda rolled her eyes. They were kids still, by wizarding laws. "I mostly use it when I need to travel a long distance in a short period of time." What she kept out was that those travels more often than not involved diplomatic duties.
The woman noticed Kain's reaction when she mentioned the castle. So her thoughts were on the right track, after all. Inwardly, she smiled. "I suppose it is... Although the word I would use for it is large, it does have its beauty." She wasn't fond of it, but then again couldn't imagine her life anywhere else. Maybe she was spoiled. "What I like about it is that there aren't many strict rules. The cook can come and talk to the leader, if she so pleases." Once again she kept something to herself. This time the little fact was that the cook and the leader were friends, even. The old woman had practically raised Miranda.
"You know, nothing can keep you from visiting me there." Her smile grew. "Just tell them you're a friend of Miranda Ward's and I'm certain they'll be more than happy to assist you." She chuckled softly.
"So, Kain, what do or did you do for a living?" Miranda smiled and waited for his answer.

The young ranger mouthed an "Oh" as Miranda spoke of the Castle. "No way!" He gleamed, when she added that he could visit. He was sure that sometime he would do just that. He needed to accomplish his goal, right? And what better way to do it than this?
He woke from his small daydream about the castle, by Miranda's question.
"Oh, well I was a ranger. Before I ran here." He said, which was the truth. "But now, I'm just...well, just trying to stay alive, I suppose is the best way to put it." He added, and smiled softly. He hadn't smiled this much, in...ever. Well, since he could remember. He usually was the mean elf who lived in the woods with his pet panther, yet he was so different around people. Maybe that was all he needed. To talk to someone. He often wondered how he would act if he was around another person, and he seemed to be getting better and better.
Alot better than, his stupid remark about the teleporting device...

Miranda nodded, chuckling again softly. It still surprised her when people thought living where she did was such a privilege... Maybe it was, but it was hard to see it that way, for her at least. Then again, she didn't see things like most did. "Really. As a matter of fact, I think there might be a ball coming up in a month or so. You might enjoy it, if you like people." Miranda said it while making a face.
She listened, moving a little so she sat facing him directly, still scratching behind the panther's ears absentmindedly. "That's interesting. What was it like? What did you do, as a ranger?" Miranda met rangers before, obviously, but never in such a relaxed environment. She hoped he didn't mind her questions. It hadn't been her intention to bring back memories.
Kain made Miranda think of Eleanor. The two hadn't talked in a while now and the witch wondered what was going on. She had to arrange a meeting and fast. You never know which piece of information was useful and which wasn't.

Kain's jaw dropped when she invited him to come to a ball there. "I would like to go..." He started, and knew he was going to have to talk to people sooner or later.
"What did I do as a ranger?" He repeated her question, as if suprised to hear it. "I don't know, we shoot...stuff?" He said, half-jokingly, but really that was the main thing they did. Or, atleast he did. And he was never the best ranger, so he didn't get to go on diplomatic missions, or anything. "I mean, being a ranger is fun and all, don't get me wrong, but when you're a lousy one, and putting in pounds of effort isn't helping, it's not very enjoyable." The truth was, Kain was a good ranger, and excellent one, as a matter of fact. But, people just hated him, and forgot he was even there. "So, you know that we shoot stuff...hmm, we are trained to camoflage, which, as you can tell, I failed at." He said, while laughing. Usually, he didn't get along with people. He distinctly remembered how anti-social he was before he ran away, and here he was laughing and talking with a witch, whom he had just met. Odd. "Well, what do you do as a witch?" He asked, getting off topic from him, and on to her. Kain never liked talking about himself much.

Miranda smiled to herself, glad he said he'd come. It had been so long since those halls had been touched by music, by people's voices. She wasn't the melancholic type and day-dreaming was ridiculous, as far as she was considered, however this thought linked with a sense of pride that had its roots deep down inside of her.
She laughed and looked at him cheerfully, shaking her head and refusing to have her joy clouded. "I suppose you're right. Maybe you needed a better mentor. In any case, it's your profession. Few like what they do for a living." She shrugged. "And diplomacy is over rated." That she knew all about. This didn't mean that she was unhappy with her destiny, of course. No, it was exactly what she was made for. Miranda smiled at his joke and chuckled softly. It did seem like he would have some trouble blending in.
Miranda went along with the new subject. "You never stop learning, for one. There's always a spell you haven't tried." Although it was a good cure for boredom, a 'disease' that touched every young heart, it was also the source of frustration for many magi. "But I haven't concentrated on that part of it lately." She stopped and shrugged, not deciding what to add. In her childhood, testing spells had been a hobby. Now it was a rare opportunity. "There are fun parts, of course." Miranda grinned softly, recalling her favorite aspect. Magic wielders were, more often than not, fragile physically and she loved they way it made one's adversary underestimate one's powers. The woman would rarely admit it, though, since it was more like a private joke for her.
"We do not have your agility, or your grace," she said, chuckling as she remembered some of the people she grew up with, "but we manage." Miranda looked at the animal next to her once more, thinking before she turned back to Kain. "Where did you two meet? I don't suppose your friend here is from around these parts."

"I'm sure its alot of fun, I would totally abuse my powers though, I would summon all the food I could, and just give it away, or something.." He chuckled, and looked at the steak Kenai was still chomping down on.
Kain laughed softly. And smiled smuggly at the compliment about his agility and grace. "Oh, well, Kenai actually was a kitten, when we met." He recalled, and remembered the small frightened panther in the middle of the woods. "I found him." He paused, and looked over at his magnificant pet. "I don't even know how he got here, but I was walking in the woods, and he was cowering in fear. Certainly, someone put him here." He said, and thought of the possibilties. "He could've been found by someone, and they didn't know where to put him, and dropped him off here, or he could've been sold to someone...and they dropped him off here..." He stopped, and shook his head, "I really don't know where he came from, all I know is that he bonded with me increadibly fast, and doesn't leave my side." He smiled at his panther, who just gleamed back at him. "He's my best friend now, I don't know what I'd do without him." Kain chuckled, knowing very well that was true. He would probably be dead by now, if Kenai wasn't there to attack intruders, and predators.

She shrugged gently, as delicate as ever. "You'd be surprised how many do just that, if the older ones don't look over them. Then again, spells drain you. And you have to get the food from somewhere you know of, you can't produce it." Miranda muttered and made a plate of muffins appear. "Here is an example," the witch said, handing the plate to the elf, "we enjoy these now, but when I get back, a rolling pin will fly towards my forehead with expert precision." She laughed after she said this.
Her eyes went to the feline and she could imagine the panther as a kitten, however hard it might prove in the present. There were some things you learned when being in the presence of cats, big or small.
"Maybe it was faith" Miranda suggested, "Maybe you two were supposed to meet." Many times, she didn't believe in faith, herself. In spite of this, it was a rare occasion when she downright deny a possibility, whatever it might be. "It sounds like what you two have is very special. I'm quite certain that, even if cats are cold by nature, he must feel the same way." You could tell it was true, even if Miranda suspected Kenai would say the opposite if he could talk.
"I never had a real pet." She smiled. "It's true, I did grow up with cats, but I didn't have enough time to have one of my own." Someone else would have sighed, but it wasn't like her. Instead she smiled softly and made a crystal glass appear next to the muffins. Let the pieces fall when she returned, surely the anger of one old lady was within her ability to survive.
